With the warm, dark voice of the wooden flute and the subtle tones of the lever harp, the classic colours of the silver flute and the exquisite beauty of the pedal harp, rounded out by the surprising versatility of the electric harp, this Canadian duo create a unique sound that defies genres.
Performing original arrangements of traditional and new music, Sheila & Lucile's signature sound is inspired by their background in celtic, classical and light jazz – and by the distinct voice of each instrument. Their repertoire also includes well known selections from over the centuries.
Sheila & Lucile's individual musical journeys have seen them performing in small and large ensembles across Canada, in Belgium and Germany, at festivals in the US and ceilis in Ireland, and premiering a Canadian work in New York city.
Between the two, they have recorded six albums of music for flute & harp, and for harp solo, which have been aired nationally on CBC Radio/Radio-Canada, as well as in Ireland and the US.
The energy and warmth Sheila & Lucile bring to their live performances can also be heard on their most recent recording, When Winter Comes.
Their annual sold-out performances at Ottawa's NAC Fourth Stage have become a seasonal favourite.
Avid educators, Sheila and Lucile are involved with conducting small and large ensembles, in addition to maintaining active private studios. They enjoy hosting musicians of all ages at their flute & harp workshops.
